The name
The Sanskrit word anvita (अन्वित) means: connected or joined. Followed by or accompanied by. Possessed of or endowed with. Understood or comprehended.
The root is anu (along, after) + √i (to go) — that which goes along together. Not merely adjacent, not merely linked, but accompanying — moving in the same direction as one thing.
Anvitam — the neuter form — names the state of being coherent: that which has been connected, that which holds together. Not because it was forced into alignment, but because its parts genuinely go along with one another.

A system is anvita when its components accompany each other — when knowledge, its representation, and its application move together as one. When the data model reflects the domain. When the architecture follows from the problem rather than from convention. When what the system knows and what the system does are not two separate things bolted together, but a single coherent structure.
Most software fails not because the people who built it lacked skill, but because the problem was not examined carefully enough before code was written. Most AI systems disappoint not because the mathematics is wrong, but because the question they were meant to answer was never properly framed. Most knowledge systems decay not because knowledge changes, but because the structure that holds it was never coherent to begin with.
Coherence is not a luxury added after the fact. It is the condition under which software works at all.

In the seventh century, the philosopher Prabhākara Miśra argued that words acquire meaning not in isolation but through their relation to one another (anvitābhidhānavāda) — literally, the doctrine that meaning is anvita, connected, accompanied. A word means nothing alone; it means only in the company of other words. Twelve hundred years later, the attention mechanism — the architecture on which all of today's AI systems are built — arrived independently at the same structural insight: a token's meaning is computed entirely from its relations to the other tokens around it.
That is what anvitam names in software. A system where the parts make sense together — where each component's meaning and purpose is defined by its relation to the others. Where knowledge is not merely stored but structured. Where representation and application cohere.

From coherence to inquiry
Anvitam is one half of a practice. The other half is Anviksiki.
Anvitam — that which goes along together, made coherent: the state that careful work produces. Ānvīkṣikī — critical inquiry: the examination that makes coherence possible in the first place.
Anvitam is where coherent systems are built — software, AI, and knowledge systems where the parts accompany each other. Anviksiki is where ideas, decisions, and lives are examined with the same care. The two names trace a single movement — from inquiry to coherence.
